Apparel Industry 2011

I think the word of the year for apparel is romantic but minimalistic.
Designers are going with a classic look.
The Spring 2011 runway collections in Paris definitely gave out a 70’s and retro themed feeling silhouette using multicolor as well as a bit of a 90’s themed twist. .
Corduroy pants and wide leg room and loose fitting is big this Spring 2011.
Also animal prints continue to be a favorite theme for the season.
In Milan, people are becoming more upbeat and bold with a 70’s feel as well. Futuristic couture with a lot of colors. Mix matches of patterns were styled together  as well.

Also, more and more designers are economically aware 2011 by recycling clothes & inks and using organic cottens... Also, more consumers  are economically aware and are becoming only drawn to echo-friendly company's.

The Valenciago 2011 Spring collection was masculine like, the models looked a bit like a tomboy but was very feminine and sexy in a hard edgy way.

The Yves Saint Larent Spring Collection right now is feminine, elegant and sexy, while also being very chic. The connection is a direct line to the heyday of the seventies and eighties. Roberto Rimondi uses art to create the fashion. The mind and mood of these clothes were very energetic. Fantastic bright colors like oranges and turquoise. The clothes were enlightening but rigorous, high thigh slits on long flowey dresses. The women look very powerful and untouchable. Geometric, modern heals and flats.

Marc Jacob's dresses on the Spring runway collection for 2011 are very glamorous and over the top. He had a little bit of the trendy 70's theme feel but with more of a disco interpretation of the 1920’s and 1930's.  The collection had sheer flapper dresses, and fans for props. He used animal prints on shinny material that was definitely eye-catching and glamourous.

Stella McCartney is a pragmatic designer, and is very innovative with her creations. She said she wanted to use suttle droplets of color palettes into whites. She used royal silk dyed into an indigo, as well as some denim. Beautiful bold citrus colors with a park avenue kind of fifty’s feel. The clothes definitely looked comfortable and wearable for every women.

Givenchy’s Spring 2011 collection was very modern, yet edgy. A lot of black and white colors and leopard prints. The collection had a lot of zippers, sheer fabrics and long silhouette's.

Balmain had a punk 'rock n' roll 'rough edge. A lot of studding rips, leather and shine. A lot different from what other designers are doing on the runway.

Roberto Cavalli used fax python print on chiffon material. Cavalli also used crocodile, and did all of his pieces by hand, hand leather stitching and hand embroidered beads. All of the craftsmanship was equisite. All of the clothes were very sexy excentuating the womens body.

Karl Lagafield did a beautiful job with his Chanel fashion collection for his Spring 2011 show. The Chanel show was very exciting; it was shown in a oriental garden with shooting fountains. He used muff holes in his sweaters and feathers in his dresses. He does such a beautiful job with his shows, and I think he really thinks of CoCo when he designs and stays true to Chanel and her style.

For Valentino’s new designer Pier Paolo Piccioli showed his 2011 Spring Collection in Paris giving the brand a younger feel but with the same spirit. Wearable, but very chic, feminine, delicate pleats, skirts and blouses were very sensual but just a little dangerous, with a balance of dark lace and leather mixed in to it.  The delicate fabrics had a variety of shades, nudes and pastels but white was the key color in this collection. The effortless long-sleeve day dress is on its way to becoming a Valentino statement.
Weathering embroidery and floral appliqués. The girls looked like strolling angels or fairies, which is what the designers were trying to get at. The craftsmanship and hand detail is a success for Valentino.

Jean Paul Gaultier revealed that his Spring Couture 2011 collection was the theme “punk cancan.” John Galliano had a graphic but sentimental feeling to his collection. He had a vintage inspiration from the late twenties, yet he used a 3-D look of embroideries with a pop of metallic sequins..  He used sheer fabrics and extravagant, big hats. The way he layers on the linens and silks is so eccentric.

The runway carried a total edgy look within the model. The models had multicolor hair styled into Mohawk hairpieces, fishnet leg stockings, abundant amounts of ruched tulle and small part chokers done in black and blood red studs. The line demonstrated Gaultier’s famous sharp tailoring skills using Brittish punk, bondage, romantic theme with rich fabrics, satin, leather, tartan, agitated mesh and ruffles. They gave muscular feel yet cut a feminine figure.  There was cropped studded leather jackets, pencil skirts, and skirt suits with a thigh high split skirt, wide-leg trousers and multicolor jumpsuits. A gorgeous long-sleeved off-the shoulder dress done in strands of white and dark navy. Featured a structured bodice done in delicately draped pleats worn above soft, silk plissé pants. The show had girls came in feature gowns with fishtail skirts and cutaway ball gowns lined in tulle and guipure lace.

  1. Wow, this is a fantastic rundown of all the Spring shows! I can tell you obviously know quite a bit about fashion. Wonderful! I definitely agree about the 70s being a huge trend for Spring, as well as romantic minimalism. However, I also saw a bolder side this season, as there were a lot of big stripes and colour blocking. All in all, I think it's a fun and optimistic season. Balmain I thought, yes, was different from other collections, but was pretty much the same considering its past collection. I think Balmain really needs to refresh and go for a different look next season. As for couture, Dior was my absolute favourite. Dior always is, actually.
